Tennis – Club Championships 2021

We had another fantastic August Bank Holiday Weekend playing the Club Championships with a large, socially distanced crowd watching the finals on Monday 30th. The open doubles competitions, in particular, produced some really tight, crowd-pleasing finals. Thanks to all that took part, helped out and brought food!

We have also managed to get some of the Plate competitions completed this year. Here are your champions:

Adult/Open Competitions

Asa won the Men’s Singles, beating Sam with relative ease, and Erin took the Women’s Singles against her friend Olivia.

In the Women’s Doubles, Erin and Olivia beat Alex and Bronwyn in a really close match.  In the Men’s Doubles, Arthur and Fred beat Elliot and Asa in a high quality, absolute thriller.  Finally, in the Mixed Doubles Fred and Erin beat the father and daughter team of Olivia and James in another really close match.  So Erin ended up with three trophies!

The new Over 60s Women’s Competition was won by Jane and Ruth beating Carol and Alex.  The Men’s Over 60s was won by Gary and Peter from Martin and Steve.  Trophies will be purchased for these competitions before next year!

Junior Competitions

Hugo won the new Under 8s competition, Oliver won the Under 9s and Oscar retained his Under 10s title.  Oscar also won the Under 12 Boys while Dominic beat Fred in the Under 16 Boys.  Amara (aged just 10) won the Under 12 Girls and Olivia won the Under 16 Girls.

Plate Competitions

These took place over the following weeks (and months in the case of the ladies doubles).

Brenton won the Men’s Singles at a canter.  Helen and Jane won the Women’s Doubles.  The Men’s Doubles plate was won by Ashley and David beating John G and Adriaan in a tight final.
