Risbygate Sports Club

Ukulele Club

The Ukulele Players of Bury St Edmunds meet at Risbygate Sports Club on Tuesday at 7:15pm.

In April 2016 a group of curious Risbygate Sports Club members took up an invitation to learn how to play the Ukulele.

They discovered that the ukulele was much more than just a little guitar. There were different strumming patterns, rhythms, finger picking and a wide variety of songs to learn. And learning how to play the ukulele in a friendly and social place meant they would develop skills, impress friends and entertain families and friends.

Now we have over thirty members and a songbook of over 90 songs. We spend our Tuesday evenings playing songs from artists from Irving Berlin to Neil Diamond, Buddy Holly to Cliff Richard, Elvis Presley to Fats Domino, Ricky Nelson, John Denver, Little Eva, Olivia Newton-John, right the way through to Ed Sheeran and the Old Crow Medicine Show. Even ukulele greats such as George Formby and Joe Brown get an occasional play.

Our group aim is simply to enjoy our evenings together and learn a bit about the ukulele and music along the way.
