Results
The 6th Masters competition at Risbygate gave us a day of excellent bowling.
Mark Dawes (world ranking 5), made his first appearance at the event along with other world ranked and top grade players.
Risbygate’s own Mark Royal eventually won the competition by beating Harry Goodwin in a very close and entertaining final.

Welcome to Indoor Bowls at Risbygate Sports Club. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, at Risbygate you can play this social and friendly sport to whatever level you choose.
We have:
- Four rinks, ensuring all-year-round play
- In-house leagues (ladies’, men’s and mixed) as well as external competitions.
- Regular ’friendship’ and other play available
- Group bookings welcome for social and competitive play.
- Nationally qualified coaches.
As an example, Saturday afternoon friendly matches enable new players to familiarise themselves with the rigours and mysteries of playing matches against unfamiliar opposition. Internal club competitions encourage players of all abilities to interact with each other in well contested and sociable matches. If, and when, you progress further there are also opportunities to enter County and National competitions.
We have a dedicated band of enthusiastic coaches under the wing of Head Coach Bernie Millard to encourage and inspire you to greater proficiency. If you wish to simply finish our introductory course and enjoy the physical and social benefits of the sport that is fine, but as a full member you are also encouraged to join the Friendship League. This provides a path, for those who prefer a more keenly contested sport, through to the internal leagues of which there are several varieties.
The Club also takes part in Suffolk County Leagues. We put out a team in the Men’s Suffolk West League and two teams in the Mixed Suffolk West League. This enables the better players to test their skills against opposition who they may not meet very often.
Public Access
Public access to our indoor bowls facilities is available all year round at the following times, at a cost of £12 per person for 2 hours:
Tuesday 11.30pm – 1.30pm
Thursday – 11.30pm – 1.30pm

“I’m 21 years old and have been bowling at Risbygate for the last 3 years. It’s great to see some of the younger generation, as well as older folks, taking up the sport. My father and sister (who is currently an U25 England International) bowl here too and everyone has been so welcoming. Bowls is a game for youngsters that the elderly can also play, encouraged by the enthusiastic coaching staff, who cater for all standards and ages.”
Club Improvements
The Club took the opportunity afforded by the Covid lockdowns (one of the few plus points!) to improve the Indoor Bowls facilities. A brand new carpet has been laid and the lights upgraded to LED. A great improvement for our bowlers and once more bringing Risbygate Club Indoor Bowling facilities up to the highest standard.

How To Join
If you want to try a sport or activity at Risbygate Sports Club, and come along for a taster session, please contact the office on 01284 755468 or email info@risbygatesportsclub.co.uk and we will put you in touch with the relevant Sports Section Secretary to arrange a visit and give more information.
If you are interested in membership for a particular sport (or sports), you can either download and complete our Membership Form or contact us by email, phone (01284 755468) or visit the club’s office, which is open weekdays between the hours of 9.00 am. and 12.30 am. We will be very happy to show you around the club, and/or any particular section you are interested in.
PLEASE NOTE
The Racket Sports and Outdoor Bowls membership subscription year runs from 1st April till 30th March. Indoor Bowls and Social/Petanque subscriptions run from 1st September until 31st August. Pro rata subscription rates apply if you join inbetween subscription periods.
